Day 1 – Keto Reboot

Today was a good day for my Keto reboot. I felt great when I’d woken up after drinking the detox tea the night before and actually intermittent fasted until just after noon. Then I had my go to breakfast which is coffee with sugar-free creamer and whipped cream followed with a hard boiled egg. I didn’t eat then until around 8 pm. When I finally had dinner I was a bit hungry, enough to cook a large ribeye (only eating half) and making a caprese salad. I was full and sated.

I will do a seperate post about my coffee as it’s become a ritual for me to not only enjoy but to make as well. There’s something meditative about it. I know that sounds silly. I’ll also do a few other posts about different things that have helped me in the past, new things I’ll try and a few other things.

A few things I’d like to say about starting this lifestyle is that I didn’t realize that it would actually SAVE me money. I do travel to a few different places for different things but my go-to grocery stores are Aldi and Walmart. Occasionally I’ll go to Trader Joes or Target for a few things but the more and more the keto lifestyle is becoming popular the more and more regular grocery stores try to satisfy their customers needs.

I like to purchase ribeyes from Aldi as they’re usually around $8.00 for a large ribeye which usually gets cut in half for two meals. Aldi also carries low carb bread which actually tastes great. I usually pair that with butter and sugar free strawberry preserve and it doesn’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. It’s great. Plus their coffee is probably one of the best tasting but I’ll admit I try all kinds of coffee from Rapid Fire (keto coffee at Walmart), Starbucks and random ones I pick up.

Most of the rest of my grocery are bought at Walmart but I do try to go for organic options, sugar free and full fat. I can get a sweet tooth and try to satisfy that with different things that I’ve found in the stores.

While I won’t be selling anything to you all here I will be reviewing things for you to give you the options that you have during this lifestyle transitions. I hope to help you find out but truthfully this entire process has always been a lot of trying out new things. I will say that I suggest NOT going out to eat for at least the first week or two as your cravings are still there and it might be hard to resist that side of fries or a baked potato.

I most common thing that I tell people about the keto lifestyle is that once you get in ketosis you literally have no cravings. For all those times I muttered, “I can’t not have ice cream or chocolate or I can’t live without chips” I was wrong. I can live without any of that. I live in a world where your options are endless if you are willing to explore and you really can just eat once a day. Your body adapts and you feel better.

Whenever I am in full ketosis and I eat something with a large carb count I always remember within hours why I love keto so much. I usually feel like crap after eating carbs, my skin breaks out or I am lethargic… Sometimes all of those things.

The “keto flu” is a mislabeled thing in my opinion. What it actually is is carb detox. You’re body is so used to being fed shit that it’s addicted to it. We were made to live off preservatives and synthetic crap. Our bodies really are engines that need the purest energy which is from organic berries, veggies, meats and seafood. While I’m not perfect and have found synthetic things that mimic what I was eating but with no or low carbs I try to limit myself to eating from the earth.

I have been able to combat the “keto flu” by adding salt to water, drinking water with electrolytes and being kind to myself. I don’t over do things in the first week while my body is detoxing. Remember that the shitty feelings you’re having when you start are your body’s way of getting rid of toxic things in you. It’s a good thing. Once that part is over, which can take a week or two, things just start to feel right. You get your energy. You can go long periods of time without eating. Your skin clears up. Those are just the main things that happen.

So, my go to breakfast/lunch is always usually a hard boiled egg and my coffee. One of the first things I invested in is an egg cooker from Amazon. I think I paid $10.00 for it. Best investment I made. That way I buy are large 18 count carton of eggs and cook half or all for the week. I’m not always great on meal prep but if there’s a hard boiled egg already ready to go I’m less likely to eat something else. I usually wait until around noon and just try to have water maybe with a little lemon from the time I wake till I have my lunch. Usually I’m not even really hungry by the time I have my egg and coffee but it ends my fast.

  1. So interesting that you were able to save money. I think some folks start buying a lot of expensive special keto foods instead of keeping it simple with meat and veg and that might be what is hurting their budget. Good luck to you!
